FDA posts expanded Spring & Mulberry chocolate recall

    January 18, 2026

MENA Newswire, RALEIGH: Spring & Mulberry has expanded a voluntary recall of select chocolate bars sold nationwide after testing indicated possible Salmonella contamination, according to a company announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The Raleigh-based company said the affected products have been available for purchase online and through select retail partners since Sept. 15, 2025, and consumers should not eat recalled items.

FDA posts expanded Spring & Mulberry chocolate recall
FDA recall notice expands to include additional chocolate products sold nationwide this season.

The FDA posting lists the expanded recall announcement date as Jan. 14, 2026, with the agency publishing the notice on Jan. 15, 2026. The company said it is updating an earlier press release issued on Jan. 12, 2026, which initially covered a single product lot. Spring & Mulberry said there have been no confirmed illnesses or adverse health effects reported to date in connection with the recalled products.

The expanded recall covers multiple flavors and specific lot codes printed on the back of the packaging and the inner flow wrap. The recalled products and lots are: Earl Grey, lot #025258; Lavender Rose, lots #025259 and #025260; Mango Chili, lot #025283; Mint Leaf, lot #025255; Mixed Berry, lots #025275, #025281 and #025337; Mulberry Fennel, lot #025345; Pecan Date, lots #025261, #025265, #025267, #025268, #025339 and #025343; and Pure Dark Minis, lot #025273.

Spring & Mulberry said the potential contamination was first noted after routine third-party testing conducted by the company’s contract manufacturer found finished product that tested positive for Salmonella. The company said it expanded the recall in consultation with the FDA to include additional production lots made during the same time period on the same equipment. It added that all other lot codes are unaffected by the recall.

Expanded recall scope and identification details

The initial recall announcement posted by the FDA on Jan. 12, 2026, involved only one lot of the Mint Leaf Date Sweetened Chocolate Bar, described as a 2.1-ounce product with lot code #025255. That notice said the affected item could be identified by the Spring & Mulberry brand name, teal box color, the Mint Leaf flavor name, and the lot code printed on the packaging and inner wrapper. The FDA posting listed both the company announcement date and the agency publish date as Jan. 12, 2026.

In the expanded notice, the company reiterated that the lot code is the key identifier and said customers who have purchased affected lots should not consume the products and should dispose of them immediately. Spring & Mulberry said customers may request a refund or replacement by contacting the company at recalls@springandmulberry.com and providing a photo of the lot code. The FDA posting also lists the same email address as the consumer contact for the recall notice.

    Health guidance and consumer steps

The FDA posting includes standard health guidance on Salmonella, noting that the organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly individuals, and others with weakened immune systems. The notice states that healthy individuals infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea that may be bloody, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, and it advises individuals experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention immediately.

The recall notices describe the products as chocolate bars sold under the Spring & Mulberry brand, with the expanded recall listing multiple flavors and associated box colors as additional identifiers. The FDA posting for the expanded recall states the information was current as of Jan. 15, 2026. Consumers are advised to check their packaging for the listed lot codes and to avoid consuming any product that matches the recalled lots.
